On looks and style I give these a 5/5 . On the waterproofing I sadly have to give these a 0/5 . I brought a front set last year and a rear set this year to do the Argentina to Alaska next May I hadn't tried them until about a month ago .So I packed my camping gear up and went for a test ride on a rainy day when I got there everything in both sets of panniers was absolutely drenched .Wet on the top on the bottom and wet in the middle. I was so angry.wet clothes.wet sleeping bag wet thermarest . So I reached out to carradice and they sent me 3 tins of wax that I used on them and the panniers are much better. I love the look of these and I wouldn't swap them for the plastic bag style like the ortliebs but what a big shame that they weren't waterproof from the factory .Mine were definitely NOT 100 percent waterproof which for me is probably the most important requirement.

The best panniers ever. Tough as anything, canvas fabric is waterproof and sheds dust and grit in a way that synthetics do not - everything stays nice and clean. I love the look of them too. So rustic!

I have had my front and rear panniers from 2009 and have used them to bring a lot of food home with them

I’ve had a pair of these for around 10 years.
They have had a LOT of heavy use - commuting, shopping, touring.
Incredible value as I think they will go on for another 10 years.
They are very, very robust. If you want something that will last for years then these are the panniers to buy.
They have had 2 repairs: 1 x rivet replaced (with a nut and bolt) and 1 x seam restitched boy a cobbler.

Superb bags. We've used them for eight years on multiple long tours, the most recent being 1100 km down the Rhone River, and they have performed flawlessly. The fittings are robust and long lasting and the fabric is very tough., being very water resistant. Use them with rollup poly compression bags for clothes to achieve total waterproofing and carry all your bulky gear very compactly.
