Adventure is for Everyone: Yorkshire Coast Dirt Dash 2026

There are plenty of cycling events that measure speed. Dirt Dash measures something different: adventure.

Last weekend, riders gathered in Whitby for another Yorkshire Coast Dirt Dash, ready to explore the spectacular landscapes of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast.

Some arrived with years of bikepacking experience and countless adventures behind them. Others were taking their very first steps into the world of gravel riding and bikepacking.

That's the beauty of Dirt Dash.

There are no finish line sprints, no pressure and no expectations beyond turning up with a bike and a sense of adventure. The route is there to be enjoyed, not conquered.

Over the weekend, riders followed gravel tracks, forest roads, quiet country lanes and hidden trails, discovering some of the finest riding Yorkshire has to offer. Saturday, the route initially followed Cinder Track, giving fantastic coastal views before heading more inland. On Sunday, the route took us through the North Yorkshire Moors and many of their steep lumps. The scenery was breathtaking, but as always, the people made the event.

Looking at riders' setups, it was clear that some arrived with years of bikepacking experience and countless adventures behind them and had their setup all figured out. Others strapped whatever kit they had, and however they could, on their bikes and were taking their very first steps into the world of gravel riding and bikepacking. It was great to see such a variety of experiences.

Around camp, stories were shared, route tips were exchanged, and friendships were formed. Experienced bikepackers offered advice to first-timers, helping with everything from packing bikes to campsite routines. For many riders, it was their first overnight cycling adventure. For others, it was another chapter in a long list of memorable journeys.

Among the riders was Carradice ambassador Iza Murtagh. Despite being an experienced cyclist, this was one of Iza's first opportunities to fully immerse herself in a multi-day bikepacking event, testing both herself and her equipment on unfamiliar terrain.

Riding with the Carradice Adventure Range, she experienced exactly what Dirt Dash does so well – providing a welcoming environment where riders can challenge themselves, learn new skills, and discover the freedom that comes from carrying everything they need on their bike.

Like many riders attending their first Dirt Dash, Iza quickly discovered that bikepacking isn't about having the lightest gear, the most expensive bike, or years of experience. It's about curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to turn down an unfamiliar trail to see where it leads.

What stood out most throughout the weekend was the sense of community. Dirt Dash attracts riders of all abilities, yet everyone arrives with the same goal: to spend a weekend exploring by bike and enjoying the journey.

Events like these remind us that adventure doesn't have to be extreme. Sometimes it's simply loading up your bike, leaving your comfort zone behind, and discovering what's possible.

Whether you're an experienced bikepacker or someone considering your very first overnight ride, Dirt Dash proves that adventure is for everyone.

And judging by the smiles around camp on Sunday morning, everyone left with plans for their next one.
