Super C SQR Tour (16L)

I bought the Super C SQR Tour bag well in advance of the two rides I plan doing in July. First will be the C2C on 11 July, then the following day after arriving in Tynemouth, I will set out on the East Coast route back to my home in Norfolk.
I borrowed a Carradice seat post bag from a friend when I did a part-round Ireland tour in 2016. The photo is of me and my mate, Dave Turner (r) with the Carradice bag mounted on my old Giant Defy bike. The bag I borrowed worked superbly well hence my decision to buy my own bag for the 2024 events.

This is very nearly the best commuter pack ever. It’s tough and waterproof. I have used it for many years and it has served me well. I had rewaxed it after a good few years. Turned the hose on it……totally dry inside.

Few negatives. The bracket eventually malfunctioned and the mounting bolts failed (the threaded insert detached from the post ring clamp after it became rusty), but this was after a couple of years work.

The second is the side pocket flaps. I have lost some stuff out of these. Glasses and tools. It could do with a draw string like the main flap..

Lastly the main flap is very loose. The buckle and strap seems pointless as it never stays tight, and even when at it’s tightest, flap is more of a cover. Having said this the drawstring gusset holds everything in place.

The bolts holding the metal frame to the pack (solid btw) catches when pushing things in an out when tightly packed. Minor though really.

Mine finally got killed after it dropped off the seat post bracket and was run over by several cars. This isn’t the fault of the bag itself, but it’s not always easy to see if it is located correctly on the mount. User error more than product problem.

Near perfect commuter tool, short cycle tours or longer audaxes. I had a friend use on on the transcontinental. It was a solid companion.

Despite the grumbles I would highly recommend this. Considering a new one or longflap camper.

Love this solid, no-nonsense trunk that I hope to switch between my 2 Bike Fridays when light touring and commuting. I just need to buy a second seat post bracket from you! The side pockets could be just a tad deeper to fully accommodate a spare water bottle. It would also be great to have a couple of extra D rings on the top face so you can bungee a jacket (I imagine you thought if that but trying to discourage people from carrying more than the rated 10kg?). Still, it would be simple, very useful addition.

An excellent alternative to the new long bikepacking bags that are strapped to seatpost, I replaced a popular UK made bag that was prone to sway and had a fragile dry bag with this SQR tour. Much better, it is stable, easy to fit in seconds and very tough. The space is useful for touring as I can get a thermarest, down sleeping bag, some spare kit, stove and mug etc. It also fits awkward items like shoes better if you are touring to bunkhouses and need spare clothes. The only drawback are pockets that sit at too much of an angle with flap that isn't tight over them... you need to pack with bigger items like a light waterproof jacket, small stuff will fall out. Also there was some sharp bolt ends inside from the frame, these could damage delicate items like a sleeping bag. I covered in duct tape but these should have fabric over them I think. Overall this is brilliant touring bag and works much better than those 'sausage' bikepacking bags.
