The Nelson Longflap Saddlebag is one of our most popular bags. Its larger size and adjustable capacity make it ideal for longer rides including overnight stays. It is even great for commuting when you need to carry extra gear. The saddlebag comes with 3 leather straps for attaching to the bike. Traditional style and unsurpassed quality. Made from 100% waterproof 18 ounce cotton duck – the original performance fabric with self-sealing seams.  It is easily re-proofed and repaired.

Quality leather straps  keep their strength and looks no matter what weather and conditions they face. Buckles and fastenings are all metal – we know they can take decades of regular use. All of our saddlebags can be made without leather content - we substitute recycled firehose material instead.

Want a saddle bag, but your saddle doesn't have bag loops?

  • For small bags you can use Saddle Loops which bolt onto your seat rails.
  • Or choose the Bagman Quick Release Clamp - which means you can take your saddlebag with you when you leave your bike.
  • Larger bags will benefit from a Bagman support - especially if you will be carrying heavy loads.

Review

I'm a long time user of Carradice saddlebags to go bike touring/bikepacking. I love their sturdy construction, the easy access to my gear, the side pockets for things like tools and first aid kit and that I can mount them to my saddle and don't need the extra weight of a rack. I used the Camper Long flap initially, but some gear changes have allowed me to use the smaller Nelson Longflap - it swallows my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, clothes, cooking set etc. The inclusion of D-rings for a carrying strap is great (many users would make that modification themselves before that change), but a carrying handle would also be nice - right now I use the webbing straps I put on the leather strapping points - and a lightweight version (maybe 1lb rather than 2lbs) using something like Cordura with the same closures as the Super C saddlebag would be great.
